Abstract Interiors (2021-2023)

I love going from a tiny collage to a gigantic painting while staying true to the small.

I find the process of making these little modernist collages to be pure joy. My idea was to blow them up at least ten times the original size into statement paintings that are more spacious and minimal. They become like gigantic pages out of a sketchbook. I make the collages from fragments of other works, giving these pieces a second chance at life. Then I blow them up and make them monumental.

Side note, this series started at the onset of the pandemic. I needed to simplify. I also started taking improv classes on zoom for the first time. Another artist pointed out that this may have opened me up and influenced my work. I would have never made that connection on my own, but I think it is true.
